The incomplete net

In terms of computer art, my admiration is for Vera Molnar. As I am inspired by her works and what it represent, which are simple but has direct and strong meaning, I tried to create something similar.

My sketch is a presentation of repeatedly and randomly discontinuous straight lines, in both vertical and horizontal. The disordered squares are the broken pieces falling through the net. Together, they show the incompletion and falling apart. My idea is original, however, I take huge interest in Molnar’s works in (Un)Ordnung. (Dés)Ordre which are straightaway demonstrations of disorder.

I started coding as a beginner, thus, I believed that it must be  a complicated code to create a sketch look nice, but when things come clearer, I understood that simple is the best. A simple code can bring an interesting result.

Code used:

void setup(){
background(255);
size(500,500);
noLoop();
}
void draw(){
for( int i = 5; i < width; i = i + 17){
strokeWeight(1.5);
line(i, 0, i, random(200));
}
for( int i = 5; i < height; i = i + 17){
strokeWeight(1.5);
line(0, i, random(200), i);
}
for( int i = 5; i < width; i = i + 17){
strokeWeight(1.5);
line(random(width), i, random(200), i);
}
for( int i = 5; i < height; i = i + 17){
strokeWeight(1.5);
line(i, random(height), i, random(200));
}
for (int i = 10; i < width; i = i + 39){
for (int j = 10; j < height; j = j + 39){
pushMatrix();
rotate(radians(random(360)));
noStroke();
fill(random(10),random(10),random(10),80);
rect(random(i), random(j), 17, 17);
popMatrix();
}
}
}

This is the result:
